What is Nourishment?
Nourishment = nutrition + the heart.
If you have been following me awhile you will know that my fave word is nourishment. But what does it really mean?
Well to me it’s more than nutrition. It includes the experience of nutrition too – the heartiness, the sentiments, and the intention with which we eat.
Ultimately what nourishes us is;
– our relationship to food,
– our participation in the experiment of eating,
– the wonder,
– the joy,
– the change,
– the aliveness,
– the shopping,
– the cooking,
– the sharing,
– the ripe raspberries,
– the sticky spaghetti,
– the fresh salad,
– the sweet ice-cream, and
– the knowing that when this meal is finished we will soon return for another (and another, and another).
We all eat – but have you ever taken the time to consider what it means to be an eater? Whether you know it or not, each time you eat you secretly make a commitment to continue to be alive.
That to me is nourishing.
