Inside you is a beautiful castle
Don’t let this photo fool you.
There is a secret behind that smile.
A secret that only few people knew.
You see inside this girl is a big, beautiful castle.
A castle filled with winding, grand hallways containing magical doors that lead to many rooms with big light-filled windows.
You’d think with such an amazing treasure inside that everyone would know about these rooms, all of the magic inside.
But, over the first 30 years of her life, she closed up all of the doors.
One at a time…. with every comment someone made about the colour of the walls, or the decorations in each room.
With every unwanted criticism or snide remark, she’d draw the curtains, lock a door and hide the key.
Shutting herself down.
Locking away her magic in the darkness to please others until all that was left was a tiny, dark studio apartment.
With room for only the bare essentials and nothing more.
No space for joy, creativity, authenticity.
No space for awe, wonder or her magic to exist.
In that tiny apartment, she had lost and forgotten who she was.
Crippled with fears, doubts, worries, anxiety she kept herself closed off from the world.
Locking those doors had been so painful that she couldn’t imagine ever opening them for anyone again.
Every now and then, she’d meet someone special on her journey, and secretly, she’d show them a room or two.
Let a little light in.
Over time, it got a little easier.
The more magical people she met, the more she learned, the more she shared, the more light came streaming in the windows.
Doors unlocked and colours splashed on the walls for everyone to see.
I share this story not to dampen your day, but to let you know how grateful I am for all of the challenges I faced that lead to me sitting alone, scared and broken in that tiny apartment.
Because it led to an obsession.
An obsession with learning and growing.
And the more I learned and grew, the more doors I courageously threw open to let the light back in and share MY magic with the world.
The journey from that dark place led me to the point where I HAD to help others do the same.
No more locked doors with hidden keys.
This week, I’ve noticed that no matter how different each of my clients are, we have ALL been taught to close doors and hide parts of ourselves that made people feel uncomfortable or like they don’t ‘fit in’.
We all need a hand to make change and swing the doors open again.
We all need someone who sees the light and magic within.
Do you need help uncovering the lost rooms in your castle?
Let me know.
Love,
Kerryn x
